Royal Alhambra Music Hall, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent

Whilst browsing eBay recently, I came across the following curiosity, a metal entrance ticket for the Royal Alhambra in Hanley. A little research in old copies of the Staffordshire Sentinel show it to be a music hall in Broad Street and was run by C. Simpson. It seems to have had acts like comedians, singers and acrobats on stage throughout the 1870s, and was much more downmarket compared to the nearby Theatre Royal.

Do you have any more information?

  1. Hi, Charles Simpson was great, great grandfather. My Grandmother told me about him,he managed the Alhambra music hall after being in the pub business. His son Freddy was a professional soprano as a teenage ( until his voice broke), he also had an interest in music halls and managed one in Belfast.
Don’t know much else, in hindsight I wish I had listened more to my Grandmother when she was alive.
I was fascinated to see your picture.
