The Hanley Wurlitzer Rises Again

The Regent in Hanley, opened in 1929, possessed a Wurlitzer organ, much loved by audiences, and played upon opening by Felton Rapley. Whilst still a single screened cinema, it was removed in 1973, never to be heard of again.

Or so we thought. I stumbled across this Youtube link of the great machine back in action after over 30 years in storage. Edd Young has purchased the organ and refurbished it, getting it back to working order. Photographs of the organ, in situ at the Regent, and before, during, and after restoration, can be seen at the Facebook group of the Cannock Chase Organ Club.

And I leave you with a magnificent photograph of the restored console.
