The Last Silent Cinemas of Stoke – 3. The Palladium, Burslem

Despite surviving until recently, the Palladium has now been demolished, leaving empty land.

Located in Bournes Bank, Burslem, it was opened by the London Cinematograph Company in 1910 as the Cinema Theatre, and was advertised as the largest cinema in the Midlands. It passed through many hands over the years, and was described as ‘rough’. It closed in the 1940s and found other uses, including a garage.

I visited in 2011, and the shell of the building was still intact, although derelict. The building is the rectangular one in the centre with three bricked up windows.
